Case study: Cochabamba, Bolivia

Introduction

Cochabamba is a thriving and rapidly expanding cosmopolitan city, providing everything from exclusive boutiques selling designer label fashions to streets full of sellers of second hand clothes - it is truly a city of facinating contrasts. Markets selling fresh meat, chicken, fish, fruit and vegetables are everywhere, but if eating out is your choice, you will find restaurants preparing dishes from all over the world. Cochabamba is the gourmet capital of Bolivia and hosts annual events attended by chefs from all over South America.

Keeping in touch with home, and getting around the city are never a problem. There are internet cafes, cellphone stores and telephone kiosks on almost every block, and if you wait longer than a couple of minutes for a bus or taxi - you´re unlucky! The city is awash with Trufi buses, taxis and private hire cabs.

Cochabamba compares favourably with many major cities throughout the world, in terms of climate, architecture, shopping, cuisine, entertainment and sports, communication, transportation, parks and open spaces.
